Price Comparison

We are first going to compare prices to see how EveryPlate competes with other meal boxes. Let’s look at 4 people (family) sized boxes as it’s a popular size box for Australian families. For 3 meals per week, EveryPlate offers cheapest option of $81.87 (cheapest), which is closely follow by Dinnerly at $83.95 ($2.08 more). Higher end meal boxes such as Marley Spoon costs $121.15 and HelloFresh $129.87. The comparison table below shows that EveryPlate is an incredibly competitive meal box for those who like to stick with a budget.

Please note that price below includes their delivery fee. EveryPlate and HelloFresh charges $9.99 AUD and Dinnerly & Marley Spoon charges $8.95. (please note that you don’t see $9.99 delivery fee when you are selecting meal box).[ultimate_spacer height=”30″]

Meal Box Review 2021

Pros – EveryPlate Review

1. Perfect for large family

I’ve reviewed and compared many meal boxes in Australia, but what impressed me the most about EveryPlate is that their meal box can accommodate up to 6 people, which is great news for large family. Other providers such as HelloFresh, Marley Spoon and Dinnerly only provides up to 4 people for family size. Got hungry mouth to feed? Choose EveryPlate!

2. Great Price – jazz it up with premium steak recipe or vegetarian options

Every week, EveryPlate offers one premium recipes (usually steak recipe) so that you can add some luxury experience to your weekly meal. For extra $2.99 per meal, you can order meals such as premium steaks! Stay on budget & treat your family something special each week.

As of Feb 2021, you can also choose three (3) vegetarian meals per week.

3. Easy to pause or skip your orders

EasyPlate is a flexible subscription service, where you can pause (deactivate your account) or skip your order as you need. All you need to do it log back in to your account and press “pause”. You will then get an email confirmation. If you want to skip or pause (deactivate) your deliver, make sure you do it 5 days before the delivery date. Please read FAQ on how their subscription

4. Recipes are easy to followanyone can try to cook it

EveryPlate recipes are super easy follow with only four steps with list of ingredients you need and photos for each step. On average, each recipe takes around 30 min. I cooked “Mild Indian Chicken Curry” which took 30 min (mainly baking wedges in an oven). Perfect way to learn how to cook or impress your family with your new cooking skills!

Cons – EveryPlate Review

1. Special dietary needs are not catered (e.g. keto, vegan)

EveryPlate’s priority is to keep prices low, where they don’t cater for special diets such as keto, gluten-free, paleo, low carb or vegan. EveryPlate is offering vegetarian meals from Feb 2021, but its limited to around three (3) meals per week. I hope they introduce more vegetarian recipes in the near future.

2. Limited weekly recipes to choose from

While Everyplate is budget friendly and offers different meal box sizes, their menu selection is limited to other competitor. While Everyplate offers 10 weekly recipes (6 family friendly, 1 premium and 3 vegetarian options), other competitors HelloFresh offers 18 weekly recipes, Dinnerly offers 20 and Marley Spoon offers generous 27 weekly recipes.  If you have a fussy eater(s) in your family, be sure to check out menu before you order it or put on hold.

3. Ingredients are not packaged per recipe

As a budget friendly meal box, ingredients are not sorted. This means you will have to unpack the box and sort our ingredients by looking at each recipe. This is the same case for Dinnerly. If you prefer convenience, then I recommend HelloFresh and Marley Spoon as they pack ingredients in a bag as per recipe. But remember, this is a budget friendly meal box and you will save decent $ by doing the extra work yourself.

Unboxing Every Plate – Quality

Now that you know the pros and cons, you are wondering about the quality of ingredients. I ordered 4 people x 5 meals ($121.79) and chose Caribbean Pork Rissoles, Mild Indian Chicken Curry, Mexican Beef & Bean Chilli, Herby Italian Chicken Fusilli and Asian Pork Burger. Alright, let me show you inside the box!

EveryPlate Review Unboxing
Unboxing EveryPlate, here’s everything that was in the box!
  • As you can see from the photo, ingredients are not sorted, so you will have to look at the recipe to sort them out before cooking.
  • Vegetables were nice and fresh, no different to ones you get from fresh market or super market.
  • Meats and spices are packaged well with ice packs to keep it fresh. Packaged ingredients have best before dates with nutrition information.

EveryPlate Recipe & Cooking Review

Let’s now check out what the actual meal looks like from EveryPlate. I’m going to show you how I cooked “Mild Indian Chicken Curry”! Sounds delicious right?

Mild Indian Chicken Curry
This is comparison of EveryPlate’s recipe photo vs. my own cooking! How do you think I went??

I really enjoyed making this curry – it was very homely type of curry, very mild and kids friendly flavour. My family absolutely loved it!

These are the ingredients you receive in the box to make this recipe (you will need your own olive oil, brown sugar and salt & pepper)

Cooking Time: 30 minutes.

Nutrition Per Serving: Energy 3359kJ / 802Cal, Protein 43.2g Fat 33.9g, Carbohydrate 78g, Sodium 835mg.

Cooking Steps:

Cook basmati rice and slice veggies (carrots and zucchini) and chicken thigh fillets into dices while waiting.
Toast flaked almonds until golden on a frying pan.
Cook chicken, veggies and then add curry spices and tomato paste. Cook for while and then add water and thickened cream.
Simmer for a while and then serve it with rice and sprinkle with toasted almonds. Booyeah!!

As you can see from my cooking above, it was really simple to follow and cook. I like strong flavours, so I personally added some more curry spices that I had in pantry with 1tsp of soy sauce (my secret ingredient) to add more depth to the flavour. My family loved this meal and we also had some lefter over, so I took it to work next day for lunch!
